If you are from the 80’s then you remember the super-hero woman named Shera.  She was the Princess of Power and a household name.  But there’s a real Shera and her name is Sheera from the Bible.

Ephraim, a descendant of Jospeph, had sons and grandsons.  But they were all killed when they tried to go on a cattle raid.  Their father Ephraim mourned a long time because of them (1 Chr 7:22).  Many came to his comfort.

After a season he bore another son name Beriah which means “in misfortune” because of the sorrow of his previous sons.  Then he had a daughter and he named her Sheerah.

Interesting about Sheera is that while we don’t know much, we have a little snippet that she built three cities–Lower and Upper Beth-horon and Uzzen-Sheerah.  Lower and Upper Beth-horon were built on hill sides.   The third city was name Uzzen-sheerah, in a sense like a man would name a town after himself.  Uzzen-sheerah means “listen to Sheerah” or a play on words of “Listen to the rest/body/leaven.”

But regardless, a woman building three cities was something unusual.  I’m sure she was scoffed at, belittled and the subject of many conversations.  But you know what, that woman built three cities.  That’s amazing.  Considering the times, she really was a super-power.
