Oh wow!  In 1982 a man names Byron Preiss hid 12 boxes throughout the nation (US).  Then he published a book of an artist’s drawing of clues and corresponding poem to help lead you to the box.  If you find the box, you can exchange the key inside for a jewel.  Only two of the keys have been found.  Well…3 now.

Last October 2019 a family on the hunt ciphered the clues and believed it was hidden under home plate in a defunct park.  Except that now the park was getting ripped up due to renovation.  The family talked to the workers and the construction company but to no avail.  They they they were crazy.

But one day one of the construction men was digging and hit something underneath home plate.  He remembered the “crazy” man and called him up.  They came rushing it and in a few days time, the box was officially found.   Or rather pieces of it as the excavator had demolished it.  And they turned it in for a jewel.  Don’t worry as there are 9 jewels left if you want to try your hand.

I’ve been following this story for awhile now so it’s been crazy exciting to know that another mystery after almost 40 decades has now been solved.  Wow if there is only one closer to where I lived.

In the excitement of the find the family mentioned they had spent hundreds of hours searching.  In fact, many people have spent hundreds of hours searching which is why Byron Preiss made the game.  He wanted families to get outside and do things together.

Of course I couldn’t help but think of this Scripture:

The Parables of the Hidden Treasure

Mt 13:44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

Jesus is our great treasure.
